Post by: trophy4toon on October 23, 2012, 09:48:49 pm
Tricky game in prospect, maybe.

Who are we going to pick up front who might score, Cisse maybe ??

I hear Xisco scored a hat trick this week, how about him having a start ??

I really don't see why not. We are persistent on playing Obertan and Gosling, surely he can't be any worse!

Some thoughts on last nights game:
- Cisse looks like he couldn't hit a barn door this season. The simplest of headers first half from a brilliant cross from Ferguson and he headed it into their keepers arms.
- Sammi Ameobi, thought he had a great match and laid of a beautiful pass through the Brugges defence for Obertan to score
- It was literally and unbelievable moment when Obertan connected with the Ameobi pass and whacked it into the top corner. Apart from that one kick he was truly awful. You wonder how he was ever mistaken for a footballer.
- Shane Ferguson also looked great and he puts in some fantastic crosses. Don't know how Simpson is getting in the team before him.
- the match itself was truly forgettable, why is it that our B squad always play as if they have never met before

Newcastle United (4-3-3): Steve Harper; Davide Santon, Steven Taylor (c), James Perch, Shane Ferguson (Yohan Cabaye 81); Gael Bigirimana, Cheick Tiote, Vurnon Anita (Shola Ameobi 46); Gabriel Obertan, Papiss Cisse, Sammy Ameobi (Fabricio Coloccini 73)
Subs not used: Tim Krul, Hatem Ben Arfa, Adam Campbell, Demba Ba

Pardew's after match comments look like the ramblings of a desperate manager trying to give one of his worst ever signings a boost of confidence:

"He's (Obertan) still only 23. He has a fantastic future. We owe him a big debt for the last two European games because we wouldn't have won without him.

"He's been terrific for us and hopefully he'll play a bigger part in the Premier League as we go along."

I decided to nip down the road for this one to sit in the cold and see our 'development squad' players in action.

Gabriel Obertan: Good finish for the goal but did not offer anything else. His game consists of needing huge spaces to run into otherwise he has nothing to contribute.
Sammy Ameobi: Good feet but he needs to learn to look up more and pass the ball. A lot of the time there are passes on but he has his head down and dribbles himself into trouble.
Shane Ferguson: Not really a full back for me. Probably better deployed on the left side of midfield in a 4-4-2 formation.
Gael Bigirimana: Another one I'm not sure about yet. Like Sammy he has promise but as a defensive midfielder he's a bit lightweight and his passing is often wayward.
Vurnon Anita: I think he looks better at fullback than in the middle of the park. He's got quality but lacks physical presence for playing in the central area.

Questions:

Where is Sylvain Marveaux?
Where is Romain Amalfitano?
Where is Mehdi Abeid?
Where is Xisco?
