I'm tipping our rustiness against their tiredness will result in :

Newcastle 1 Southampton 1

Ah isn't it great to be back here amongst the proper football!

Our preseason hasn't produced the best results and Southampton are now technically with in their season. So for that reason:

0-2

I hate predicting a red and white victory as much as anyone but I think they will be sharper and more prepared than we are.

Of course McClaren did manage FC Twente while Koeman was incharge at AZ Alkmaar (McClaren's side won 3-2) so there is some history between the two managers.

Well Mackem2 's default prediction is also 0-2.

Unless he's thinking of coming in to predict a Newcastle win.

I'm sure I remember the last time we had a preseason this bad, we flew out the blocks!

Toon 2 - 1 Saints

The company I work for are match sponsors at Swindon Town vs Bradford today, where I'm told I'll be in charge of the man of the match award, if I don't eat & drink myself silly on the catering :)
So please feel free to post a few updates on what's happening in the toon game, cheers

BTW we have a 15 minute Q&A session with the manager, where I'll be asking him to take Williamson off our hands ;)

Legzy,
I'm guessing a quiet first half but a brilliant second half and you awarded Nathan Byrne the man of the match  ;D  ;D  ;D

Swindon's Nathan Byrne scored a 16-minute hat-trick as the Robins come back from a goal down to beat Bradford.
The visitors went ahead early on when Josh Morris struck, before Billy Clarke's poor penalty was saved.
After the break, Byrne curled in his first before his close range finish under goalkeeper Ben Williams put the hosts in the lead.
Byrne's third came after a mazy dribble and striker Jon Obika secured three points when he slotted home the fourth.

First half wasn't too bad, but right from kick off Swindon were slightly 2nd best. During our half time fizz & cheese & biscuits etc. we were talking about who was currently in the running for MoM. We all thought the penalty save by Lawrence Vigouroux (one of three players on loan from Liverpool) was cracking, at full stretch though admittedly at sort of waist hight where keepers like it. Fabian Robert (Laurent's brother) had come on as a 10th minute sub & had looked the most likely to creat the chances for Swindon. He was obviously a Robert though, some lovely header attempts (where he jumps for the ball about 5 mins early & was not exactly a man to track back lol). Other than that, I did like Yaser Kasim playing as number 8, worked hard with or without the ball & by the time he came off at about 80mins, I don't think he'd misplaced a pass.
Anyway, 2nd half Swindon came out still just 1-0 down & just looked a different team as they seemed to have shifter people round within the formation. Then indeed Nathan Byrne (#10) started getting much more involved out on the right wing. His 3rd goal was cracking, had the ball on the right wing & basically took it diagonally infield & accross goal before shooting. Was nice & he was an easy pick for MoM.
May as well give a bit of a mention of Bradford, their #9 looked a good player, not the quickest but if the ball came near him he made it stick & generally looked dangerous &worked hard too. I'd be happy not to see #24 Stephen Davies or #26 on a football pitch again, both came on as subs with the instructions to just kick & abuse people it seemed. The ref was also one of Bradfords best performers, but in the 2nd half Swindon were just so much better, his influence dwindled.
Was a very nice day of it, all in. I was at the ground from 12-6pm &was entertained throughout, especially by the fun house host Phil King who was left back about 25 years ago. Didn't spot the trophy room on the tour either :D

Probably like everyone else (apart from Mackem2) I'm a bit concerned about our central defence no matter who plays there.  I'd settle for a draw (fingers crossed). I've got a ticket for the match today so by 3:30 I'll have no fingernails left. It plays havoc with my guitar playing but such is life!

Yes Dolly, I remembered someone had predicted 2-1 and I was slightly concerned that it might have bee Slam Dunc!  :) I would rather it had stayed at 2-1 and sacrificed my T4T points but we were hanging on a bit at the end and Southampton had a couple of chances to snatch all 3 points. In the end probably a fair result and at least the team (even Obertan) seemed to play with a bit of passion and commitment.
