Tues 12th Jan - Newcastle 3 Man United 3
« on: January 11, 2016, 08:42:46 pm »
Here is what our great leader Steve McClaren had to say after the abysmal FA Cup defeat to Watford last Saturday:

“We played a strong team and went there to win. Apart from scoring we did everything “The next month, two months, they are all big. This is football.

“When the goals start coming we will collect points. In the mean time it is hard, frustrating, anger all the emotions. We have to stay calm and level and hopefully the results will follow.”

So brilliant analysis then, when the goals start coming we will collect points. Hmmmmmm .

Well here we are up against Manchester United the 1-0 win specialists after losing our last four matches 1-0.

It does beg the obvious question of Steve McClaren around our lack of scoring i.e. "so what are you doing about it" ? But I think he's answered that right there, we are staying calm and level and hoping.

Great ! Can I have a go at coaching the players ? I can hope as well as anyone

Oh, after Man United fans were filmed falling asleep during their cup match against Sheffield United, don't forget to bring your pillow along to this one

Saivet when asked why he signed for Newcastle today replied :

"to put myself in the shop window tomorrow night on tv against Man United and hopefully land a Champions League club move with Moussa "

IF that's a penalty (due to blocking the headers path to goal) then the referee should also be sending Mbemba off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity (there is no rule about deliberateness on that front). So the ref was clearly not certain enough that it was worthy of the correct punishment.

There is no doubt that since the Crystal Palace fiasco there has been plenty of fighting spirit emerging within the team. Jonjo Shelvey can only help that.

Very exciting match tonight, brilliant to watch, lots of goals and a fighting well deserved draw.

But hmmmm, a kind of strange match. A bit like watching Sunday morning pub league football. End to end open play with each side taking turns to attack. There seemed little pattern to either sides play other than to play the ball up the middle. Newcastle played with absolutely no width that I could see. Man United seemed similar.

How did McClaren do tonight. strange substitutions but we had very little on the bench. Where was Thauvin tonight, injured I assume ? But I was amused to see the short ball passing McClaren standing with his right arm out gesturing hit it long whilst his back four casually ignored him and kept playing the ball across the back line.

I'm a big fan of Mitrovic and think the criticism of him recently has been harsh. Tonight I thought he was awesome. He's just such a grafter and a great target to hit the ball at. He certainly gave the Man United back line a torrid time, a night they won't forget in a hurry. A great penalty too.

Paul Scholes thinks we have a decent side and will finish mid table. Well that's a bit optimistic for me but with Shelvey and Sauvet and a striker added then we should have a decent chance of staying up.

Well done anyway, very exciting game which both teams contributed too. Very entertaining and you can't ask for much more than that !!!

Colocinni deserves a mention tonight too, a real captains performance, thought he had a great match.
