If you're planning to cover rumors, you'll need a bigger bit of paper  ;)

The speed that we are doing business is so frustrating.

A lot of people are getting very exciting by the lack of transfer activity on the message forums I tend to read. However we should note that not many clubs in the bottom half of the Premier League are doing huge amounts of business. The likes of Stoke, West Brom, Bournemouth, Brighton, Crystal Palace etc are not making big moves.

Why? Well have a look at the market. Everton are quoting £25M for James McCarthy, player who made 12 appearances last season. No club is going to make that sort of gamble knowing that buying in half a dozen players at that cost could effectively put their club completely out of business should they have a poor season and go down. Almost all the clubs are safeguarding themselves against going out of business by not spending ludicrously.

Things are going to change significantly in the next few years I think. Clubs who are rushing out to make big money signings are starting to realise that they can't offload the players they already have on their books who are picking up silly money every week, sometimes to not even make the match day squad. A good example of this right now is Fabian Delph at Manchester City who I have little doubt has clubs interested in signing him but unable to pick up his weekly wage. Previously the big teams would wait on desperate clubs rushing in to buy at the last minute but I don't see any evidence of that happening this year as the fees being asked are too big and the wages unsustainable.
