Newcastle 0 Blackburn 1 - Saturday 1st March

One of the better performances this season, plenty good chances created but Michael Owen failed to take any of the 3 really good chances he had and took responsibility afterwards for the defeat. To be fair to him, Friedel played his part with some excellent goalkeeping.

Remarkably Alan Smith also almost scored on two occasions as he looks to break his 2 year scoring drought.

A solid performance from Enrique at left back which raises the question as to why he does not play in his specialist position more often rather than playing N'Zogbia there.

Dreadfull performances again from the central midfield pairing of Butt and Barton. The pair prove week after week that they cannot pass the ball and it is proving costly as we constantly lose posession from central midfield.

You would also have to ask where the central defence had wandered off to in the 90th minute as Bentley played Derbyshire through into acres of space to score the winner.

Blackburn to be fair also had some good chances and Harper played well to keep them out, again poses the question why was Given risked last week when we have such an able deputy? In fact why was Harper dropped earlier in the season when Given has not beem in form at all.

Keegan and Owen were upbeat in their post match interviews, a better performance and some chances created, now we just have to start scoring them.

Some critical matches ahead starting next week at Anfield, a place of some memories for both Keegan and Owen.
