After Joey Barton’s broken metatarsal now we have the much more high profile incident of Wayne Rooney.
Gerard Hartmann an elite athlete’s physiotherapist was quick to defend the Nike Total90 Laser boots worn by Rooney, however it turns out he has been employed by Nike in the past as a consultant.
Some of the current boots being worn claim to weigh less than 2lb’s which is about the weight of 3 bananas. The boots definitely seem to put fashion and performance before protection but the manufacturers are heavy sponsors of the Premier League clubs and players.
We think it’s time Sam’s high tech backroom staff took a look at this. Digging out those 1948 boots out the storeroom for the current first team squad would certainly have stopped Joey Barton from breaking his metatarsal.
