The Management dream team

The past, the present and the future, bring them all in and create a club we can be proud of. We need a strong management team to support Kevin Keegan and build the football team that will wallop Chelsea. We have an opportunity to include both Alan Shearer and Sir Bobby Robson.

Discuss on our fans forum.

First issue to address is Alan Shearer, Keegan has talked openly about the rift between the two of them. However Shearer looks to have been stung by Newcastle saying he needs to have experience before he will be considered for the managers job. It’s beginning to dawn on Shearer that if he ever wants to manage Newcastle United he needs to get involved in football management and not spend his time sitting in a tv studio.

Keegan himself needs to manage Newcastle like a big club and have a strong management team around him and help with the day to day pressure. McDermott is obviously a close ally of Keegan’s and probably his preferred choice for number 2. However the club is big enough to provide Shearer with a key management role as well, one in which Shearer feels can groom him for the top job one day.

We are a great fan on this site of the old Liverpool approach, they have won 33 trophies since we last won a domestic trophy. Their success was built round a strong management team and the famous Anfield boot room from which the team was ran. The club also built their next manager internally from within. Keegan was part of that culture and Shearer needs to be in the Newcastle boot room being groomed as a potential next manager.

For his part Shearer needs to accept that he needs the experience and he will not jump straight to being Newcastle no 1 without it. He needs to accept the collective discipline of being part of a management team, accept Keegan will make the decisions but above all put his all into creating a great club once again at Newcastle United. If he truly does have the passion to make Newcastle a great club he needs to take this opportunity and prove it.

We also want to see the great Sir Bobby Robson installed back to his rightful place at the club, for as long as his health allows.

Sir Bobby is a legend in football and would provide great help and support to Keegan and all others at the club. Also Bobby Robson is sensible and experienced enough not to tread on Keegan’s toes and get in the way. Sir Bobby has experience of running the biggest, complex and most politically difficult clubs in Europe and his presence and advice would be invaluable as we build over the next few years.

As for Keegan himself, most of the criticism towards him from the press centres around “he’ll quit when the pressure mounts” and “he is not tactically good enough”. Well no single man can run a club the size of Newcastle on his own, Keegan is older and wiser now, he needs to use others in his management team to help with the pressure and provide tactical input. That is Keegan’s challenge going into his new job, listening and working with others.

So our message to Mike Ashley and Chris Mort is simple, get Sir Bobby and Shearer in and mould them into a strong management team.

Maybe both Keegan and Shearer need reminding there is no I in team, Newcastle are big enough for the both of them and bringing in Sir Bobby would help Ashley and Mort build the strong management team we need to go on and wallop Chelsea as the chairman says.

Howway the lads
